In this episode, we welcome Lisa Gualtieri, Ph.D., Sc.M., associate professor at Tufts University School of Medicine in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine. She’s also the founder of RecycleHealth, a non-profit that collects wearable activity trackers to donate to underserved populations. Dr. Gualtieri is empowering future leaders in the digital health industry through research and as an educator at Tufts. Lisa speaks on how and why health-seeking behaviors have changed during the course of the covid-19 pandemic, what she’s learning from working with the FDA and WHO to deploy wearable activity tracking technologies, and the importance of digital literacy, especially in older adults. She also describes the inspiration and learning objectives behind her innovative course at Tuft’s, Designing and Evaluating Digital Health Technologies, along with how this course prepares students for their post-graduate professions.

Lisa Gualtieri, PhD, ScM, is an associate professor at Tufts University School of Medicine in the Department of Public Health and Community Medicine. She teaches courses including Digital Health, Digital Strategies for Health Communication, and Social Media and Health. Dr. Gualtieri's research focuses on the use of wearable activity trackers with underserved populations; the integration of tracker data into clinical care; and the impact of digital literacy skills on adoption of digital health by older adults. She is the founder of RecycleHealth, a non-profit that collects wearable activity trackers to donate to underserved populations, over 6,000 trackers to date. Dr. Gualtieri serves on the FDA’s General Hospital and Personal Use Devices Panel.
