Its transformation into a symbol of dangerous seduction occurred gradually, culminating in the Ming Dynasty's Investiture of the Gods where it embodied the tension between beauty and corruption. This motif later spread across East Asia, influencing Japanese, Korean, and Vietnamese mythology.
