Layers + comfort = self-love

We’ve just had a crazy snowstorm and I’ve had to put on so many clothes just to go outside or stay cozy inside. And just thinking about the pressure of this whole bikini body thing, which is nothing new; and how many of us put pressure on ourselves of “I’ve got to look a certain way”.
It doesn’t make sense to invest so much energy in this type of pressure.
Can you Imagine when you die, are you going to be glad that you weighed 5 kilos less back then?
My question to you is:
How are we using our energy?
I’ve rarely met anyone, in particular women, who are just happy with their body for having been given a beautiful vessel that’s carrying me around and is amazingly loyal, even when it’s been put through so much stuff.
Our body deserves some comfort; just as the last thing you’d want in winter time would be to take away the extra feeling of warmth and become more miserable.
It’s okay to have extra layers on and in that there’s also a feeling of safety.
There’s a time I noticed, when my boundaries were not as good, that I put on more weight because that was my false protection though it didn’t actually work.
I just want to flip it around, and as you:
What if it’s okay to have a little extra weight?
What if that’s nourishment bringing joy when you need it.
This is my loving reminder that we also eat for pleasure and for community; in a way eating is an intimate activity and we shouldn’t dismiss that it’s okay to eat for pleasure…
It’s okay to eat for comfort sometimes.
There’s a reason why food is designed to be so pleasurable using the senses… the enjoyment of being alive!
When I decided to heal from my eating disorder once and for all, I came out of a ceremony and had a beautiful fest.
I felt I was ready to engage with earth, to take her, to use her nutrients and express it.
I feel a lot of this can be tied to being hard with ourselves.
I invite you today not to give into our society’s predisposition of looking a certain way and be aware that part of self-love is getting the nourishment and pleasure from your food.
