About Karyl:
Originally from Toledo, OH., Karyl Cunningham has worked in the non-profit field for over 25 years. Karyl has always had a passion for involving herself in this type of work for the greater good of society, people, and the communities in which they live.
Karyl feels that the beauty of the non-profit field is that you can present a different picture and impact of your mission while still being aligned with it, allowing people to connect in ways they usually would not, which leads toward creating an environment of community connection.
Karyl served as president/CEO of the historic Emanuel Community Center for 8 years and found that her greatest achievement was re-igniting the light of Emanuel and its purpose in a changing OTR community. With a great staff, board and volunteers, the center found itself amidst newfound recognition, but more importantly, living up to a mission of purpose and impact. Later, Karyl served as the director of the Cincinnati YMCA’s Black and Latino Achievers and finally wrapped up her career with American Red Cross and retired in 2021. Has as received various local, regional, and state accolades for her work in the non-profit field.
