76ERS POSTCAST: Shorthanded Sixers fight but fall to Thunder 118-102

The Philadelphia 76ers hosted the Western Conference leading Oklahoma City Thunder and despite a great effort from the Sixers’ bench, they fell to OKC 118-102. Not having Joel Embiid, Paul George and Tyrese Maxey available in this, the first game of a back-to-back was too much to overcome for Justin Edwards and company.

With no member of the Sixers “Big 3” available, Nick Nurse started Ricky Council IV, Kelly Oubre, Eric Gordon, Reggie Jackson and Guerschon Yabusele. Yabu led the Sixers starters with 17 points, but the star for Philly came off the bench to drop a team high 25 points. That “star” was Philadelphia native, Justin Edwards who was playing in just his 9th NBA game. Edwards shot 9-of-16 from the floor and 4-of-9 from three while also pulling down 6 rebounds with 4 assists. Jeff Dowtin Jr also had a solid night off the bench with 18 points on 7-of-14 shooting.

The Thunder jumped out to a great start as they blew the Sixers out in the 1st Quarter by a score of 37-21. But over the next two quarters the Sixers would cut that lead to 6 as the buzzer sounded at then end of the 3rd Quarter thanks to a putback from Yabusele. Unfortunately, the Sixers success didn’t carry over to the final quarter. OKC went on a 20-7 run and it was a WRAP!
