EP.112 - It's Good To Gup Shup - The Interview
Manage episode 462303559 series 3421066
Part 3 of The Angry Brown Girl Club Series
In this third segment of the Angry Brown Girl Club, we get deeper into the power dynamics that emerge between women of color and white women. Building on Segment 1, where we discussed how women of color often find themselves “applying” for acceptance in spaces that weren’t designed for them, and Segment 2, which explored the historical roots of white feminism and how these dynamics show up in modern interactions, we continue unpacking the challenges of navigating these relationships.
This segment focuses on “The Interview”—a metaphor for the critical moments where power dynamics are evaluated and reinforced, whether in workplace applications, performance reviews, or even casual interactions. These moments often function as an unspoken "interview," where biases and assumptions come to the surface, shaping how women of color are perceived and treated.
Here are some questions we’ll reflect on together:
What assumptions am I bringing into this conversation? Are they rooted in biases or fears?
Am I actively listening, or am I focused on defending my perspective?
How do I respond when someone challenges my privilege or perspective?
What does it mean to advocate for fairness in a space where I hold power or influence?
Why are women of color so often labeled as ‘angry,’ and what does that say about how we perceive their boundaries or assertiveness?
How do historical patterns of white feminism show up in my own behaviors or expectations?
Am I unintentionally reinforcing a power imbalance in my words or actions?
This segment encourages us to recognize how these larger systems of power manifest in everyday moments and consider what it takes to unlearn and challenge them.
