He also represented the Keonjhar twice during the years 2000 to 2009.
He is an MLA from Keonjhar district (Odisha) constituency in the State Election 2024. He won the seat with a margin of 11577 votes against the BJD candidate.
On the 11th of June 2024, he was announced as the next Chief Minister of Odisha post 2024 Odisha Legislative Assembly election.
