Season 3 provides an insight into the male perspective of having cancer at a young age and offers a balanced representation to explore how different genders experience similar situations or challenges. In this episode we introduce you to Darren, Euan and James who are discussing how relationships can be affected by the diagnosis and treatment. They talk about positive relationships with partners, family, friends and the medical team. They describe how unconditional support keeps you grounded, and that they felt they could draw strength from the people around them. Conversely, they acknowledge that being surrounded by people can sometimes be overwhelming and that you also need some time to be alone with your thoughts. So its important to balance time with people with space for yourself. They also discuss the changes in relationships when you rely on people for physical help and support. They describe this as being a 'big bonding experience' which can bring people closer. They share the recognition that their experiences are very different from their friends and challenge the misconception that 'you're fine' because treatment has finished. They describe having cancer as an isolating experience, and share their apprehension about meeting other young people with cancer at first.
