Ever wonder why your autistic child has a gigantic meltdown each and every Christmas? It might be that big pile of surprises underneath the Christmas tree! The lack of a normal routine, traveling, behaving (whatever that means), socializing… It’s already enough for any autistic kid to break down. Not to mention that creepy elf that suddenly pops up, moves every night (although you could swear it was a doll) and apparently watches your every move.

Now throw in a pile of gifts. Or as your kid sees them: surprises. Which he already can't handle in day to day situations... Surprises that turn out to be gifts you never asked for, you don’t like, you don’t know what to do with, yet you have to be grateful for. It’s simply just too much. Yay surprises. Not. It took me 14 years to realize this and have a meltdown free Christmas. I hope my insights help you and your autistic kid to have a wonderful - meltdown-free - Christmas.

In this episode I talk about:

  • Why presents can lead to massive meltdowns
  • How to prevent those meltdowns
  • Other tips to help your kid and you enjoy Christmas celebrations

Stay sane 🧘 Stay happy 💃 and have a wonderful Christmas

Nadine
