Today, I'm with Varsity Team Captain EmLed, the founder and host of the Wrestling With Life podcast. I will use this description to publicly apologize to her, because I definitely talked more than she did during this episode. Was I on like three hours of sleep after driving straight from Atlanta Podtour overnight? Yes. Do I talk more the less sleep I have? Also yes. A huge apology to her, though. What a gracious guest she was for tolerating that.
Anyway, she and I wrestle with life together, focusing on some major points:
- The deconstruction of self-image when faced with setbacks. This conversations covers perfectionism, self-esteem, social media, grades in school, athletics, and more. This also includes EmLed's story with the pandemic, a breakup, and the formation of her show.
- Therapy and Parenting. EmLed opens up with her personal experience of therapy. We discuss some of the things she's learned from therapy, and this brings us to conversations about parenting and the Church. With that, we cover discipline, love, fear, judgement, and growth.
- Big Emotions. The life of someone who is empathetic, super caring, and feels emotions more sensitively and intimately than most. This discussion includes both positive and negative emotions, and we touch upon people-pleasing as well.
- Social media authenticity and burn-out. EmLed and I discuss how being podcasters has made us feel this need to post on social media almost daily, if not more. We discuss what happens to content when it is forced rather than natural, the way social media affects people, and work-life-balance.
