What’s your impact? Where to start when evaluating innovations
from The Evaluation Station, Series 1, Episode 1 by Haelo. Released: January 2018.
Why are we doing this?
Welcome to our new podcast series, the Evaluation Station. In this series you can join Abigail Harrison (Director of Innovation) and Nadine Payne (Evaluation Programme Manager) as they reach out to global experts in evaluation to get advice and guidance for the teams we support who want to understand the impact of their work. The podcast has been delivered in partnership with the Health Foundation’s Innovating for Improvement programme,
What does it involve?
In this first episode we start with first steps, where do you start when planning your evaluation and considering how you evaluate a brand new innovation. We discuss the different phases of implementation and corresponding evaluation and what evaluation might look like for testing innovations as oppose to when you are at the scaling up phase.
Our first guest speaker is Gareth Parry, PhD, Senior Scientist at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), who leads the rapid-cycle evaluation system within IHI. In addition, he provides scientific leadership in a number of IHI programs. He also serves as Clinical Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. Prior to joining IHI, Dr. Parry was an Improvement Advisor for the National Initiative for Children’s Healthcare Quality and Director of Quality Measurement and Analysis at Children’s Hospital Boston. In the UK, he was a Reader in Health Services Research at the University of Sheffield, evaluating health services delivery and developing and applying risk-adjustment methods in intensive care.
