Episode 008 - Why Critical Stress Debriefing (CSD) Works? (Trigger Warning)
Manage episode 361226173 series 3450319
*Topics: Addiction, Alcohol, Drugs, Suicide*
*Editor's Note - It is mentioned during this episode that suicide is a "selfish act." Although mental health professionals understand that this is not the case, we don't want to hide real talk and common stigmas. Rather, we view every chance we get to confront stigmas as an opportunity to discuss and educate. Suicide is not a selfish act, but rather one of hopelessness and a feeling from the person contemplating the act that people around them would be better off without them or that they hate themselves so much that they don't realize that others still love them.
Host Chip Orton and special guest Todd Thayer De Voe discuss the Critical Stress Debriefing (CSD) and why it works, or doesn't. As a 20-year emergency management professional, Todd De Voe and Chip Orton discuss CSD and Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) as well as the seven stages of conducting a debrief. Personal stories and work experiences highlight the ways for first responders to explore mental health issues. There always "hope" to speak the unspeakable.
